This time of year, the smallest gestures of generosity make the holidays brighter for those in need. At Vera Bradley, individuals participated in a handful of opportunities to give back to those in our community.
Giving trees were placed in each building for adopt-a-family programs organized through the Allen County Christmas Bureau Inc. and The Salvation Army.
A crafty team assembled at our Production Road office to sort and wrap all of the goods collected at the four buildings.
The team from the Cutting Department at the Adams Center Road building manned a sorting station for the Salvation Army Toys for Tots and Angel Giving Tree initiatives. The group was so affected by the experience, they are in the process of developing a challenge to collect clothing and additional items for those in need among Vera Bradley employees throughout the year.
In teams of two, a group of volunteers braved the frigid Midwest temperatures to ring the Salvation Army kettle bells for 90-minute shifts.

We donated a mercy basket to an inner city family–the basket contained an assortment of food staples for Christmas dinner. My women’s club guild is hosting a white elephant sale and with the monies collected we will adopt a family and fulfill their Christmas wish list.
I have signed up this Saturday to ring a bell for the Salvation Army Kettle Drive! It’s the first time I’ve done it and I’m excited to help raise money for such a worthy cause.
I am also adopting a senior citizen for the “Be a Santa to a Senior” program. Many seniors in nursing homes don’t receive visitors for Christmas, so this is a way to show them people do still care! They ask for a few neccessities and you can add in things like lotion or candy as a treat 🙂
