April Showers, part 1

April Showers: Tutti FruttiWith petals appearing on branches and winter browns giving way to vibrant greens, spring is the perfect time to gather and celebrate a joyous occasion. With the season upon us and Vera Bradley Baby officially part of the family, we were thrilled to have Kim Stoegbauer, party stylist and founder of The TomKat Studio, stop by to share her take on a Pack Her Bag baby shower inspired by Tutti Frutti.

First things first.

Planning a shower can be daunting, so Kim suggests starting with the biggest things first. Choose a location and then theme and color scheme. “Inspiration often comes from the nursery, but it doesn’t necessarily have to. You could ask the mom-to-be for ideas or find a pattern that makes you feel inspired,” she offers.

The TomKat creator definitely relies on a tried-and-true checklist approach to managing the details. “I’m a list person,” she says, “so I make a shopping list, decorations list, food prep or baking list, and so on, and then cross things off as I go.” Kim even suggests employing a timeline for your to-dos. “If you have a month, divide up duties. Make paper medallions and other items in advance so last-minute things can be last minute.”

A good feeling.

“Overall, you want to make sure everyone is comfortable and socializing, and that you’re being a great hostess. Introduce people and use games or activities to encourage interaction.” When it comes to the guest of honor, “You want the mom-to-be to feel like she’s being celebrated and supported. It’s such a big milestone, and everyone wants to share in her excitement.”

Our Baby.

Kim used Tutti Frutti as her palette for a pack her bag baby shower, featured in the video above. “This color is so bright and full of energy. I used a swatch of Tutti Frutti – my favorite from Summer – and pulled out certain hues. This color is great because the mint and olive green make it gender neutral. Plus, it shows paisleys rather than florals, which could go either way.”
