Trend Reporter Liz takes us, color by color, through Winter 2011.

With all the abundance of amazing embroidery in wardrobe this season, it’s the perfect time to bring out a traditional pattern. Inspired by a type of embroidered and decorative tribal textile made in Central Asia, Suzanis were traditionally made by Central Asian brides as part of their dowry, and were presented to the groom on the wedding day — kind of an interesting tidbit to know about the history of this pattern. We’ve jazzed up the pattern with some royal jewel tones and a little glimmer of gold. The black ground makes it very wearable, and the gold gives it just a hint of fancy to adorn that little holiday bag you may be pining for to make your LBD (little black dress) pop at this year’s holiday parties!

Winter 2011 colors and styles arrive online and in stores Thursday, September 22!

Not my fav, I have to say! : (

  2. Elizabeth says:

This reminds me of Symphony in Hue in terms of color and also a little bit of Carnaby in terms of the flowers and leaves.

    • Sue says:

Nope… I love the IDEA of the Symphony in Hue but they’re primary colors with a lot of GREEN that I don’t like… Suzani has much warmer tones with flowers instead of all that large paisley… I’m sure to each their own or there wouldn’t be so many patterns to choose from! 🙂

  3. Susan E. Orlowski says:

I just love the colors !!!!

  4. Sue says:

Suzani is my favorite and it’s interesting to know the meaning behind the name! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it… can’t wait until 9/22… my birthday! 🙂

  5. Leah says:

I did not like Suzani at ALL to begin with. However, I must say it’s really beginning to grow on me!! 🙂

  6. I think I am going to really enjoy this!

  7. Sparky says:

Liz’s bag has perfect pattern placement! My own personal preference would have been for Suzani to be brighter, with less brown, and more red and gold.

  8. Cathy K. says:

While all the winter patterns are lovely, this is the one I’ll be bringing home. Just can’t decide which bag I’ll be sporting this season.

  9. Lisa Berry says:

This design needs to be on a big bag; it is just to bold and beautiful to hide! I will have to figure out a reason for “needing” another large piece. It looks beautiful on the Vera bag!

I love how this one has such contrast…a dark background with a nice pop of color. Though it’s probably not my absolute favorite, I’ll admit that it really is beautiful!!

  11. Wendy says:

Love the black background – we need more black and navy based patterns like this – and less florals, pinks and purples. Overall, this one is my favorite new pattern!

  12. Libby Bates says:

    My favorite!! Love, love, love!

  13. love the suzani design in your new bags. We love the suzani inspiration and restyle vintage and antique suzanis in our home furnishings line. Come visit us at

Absolutely love Suzani. This is the best fabric design yet! The black background just ignites the other colors. This will be the choice for my next bag.

  17. Kathy says:

I love Suzani for winter—but wouldn’t it have been perfect in kind of a suede/velour material almost like a tapestry??

  18. I do love this color, but just wish they would come out with a true tote bag. One similar to the Gabby but bigger. Like their totes but not as deep something like 14 X10 high with shorter handles. Then maybe I would actually buy a purse.

  19. Ashley Lyn says:

I luv it! But, it looks like folkloric 🙂

  20. Ordered the tote with the toggle closing in this pattern from QVC and it is shipping soon. Love the rich tones on the black background…and the stylized flower design. Since I have been carrying a similiar tote in Happy Snails for several weeks, I was afraid it might be too similiar, but can see that it is not. New to Vera Bradly and am hooked!
