Despite brief rain showers and less-than-ideal temperatures, the 9th annual Seaside School Half Marathon and 5K Run and after party were a tremendous success, thanks to the participants, sponsors and volunteers who came out in support of Seaside Neighborhood School. Proceeds from the event are used to pay for staff and equipment used for elective classes, such as journalism, art and music, as well as an additional math teacher. This grants the students smaller and more advanced classes.
As residents of the Seaside, Florida, community (Vera Bradley proudly owns the breathtaking Inn by the Sea), members of the Vera Bradley family have long felt ties to the area. When our Chief Executive Officer Mike Ray discovered this particular community event, he felt it was a wonderful way to become involved. The 2011 race marked Vera Bradley’s fourth year as a main sponsor.
As one of the many rewards for their efforts, each finisher receives a Vera Bradley Tote, in the color of their choice. Our familiar patterns coated the coastline as previous participants showed up with Totes from prior years and the new Spring patterns, Blue Lagoon, Boysenberry, Folkloric and Lemon Parfait, spread across the finish line to mark 2011.
Perhaps our favorite part of the festivities, it was great to see all of the friendly faces at our pop up store Saturday and Sunday, and meet so many new friends, including Adrianne, a breast cancer survivor who particularly touched our hearts.
As always, we were thrilled to be a part of this amazing event, and want to send a special thank you to Cathy Brubaker, the Principal of Seaside Neighborhood School, who did an outstanding job helping us organize and create a memorable weekend for all.
Congratulations to the winners, participants and those who made the 2011 event such a success!
